Work to refurbish Super-Kamiokande has started

In order to enhance Super-Kamiokande’s ability to observe neutrinos, we plan to refurbish the detector during the period from June to September 2018. It has been 12 years since the detector was last opened. Work to refurbish the detector will be conducted in stages, draining the water a little at a time as the work progresses.
On May 31st, the first day of this work, a Shinto ceremony was held to pray for the safety and success of the refurbishment for both the Super-K collaboration and all people involved.
