T2K Experiment observes indication of electron neutrino appearance phenomena

News

By the data collected until March 2011, T2K (Tokai-to-Kamioka long baseline neutrino oscillation experiment) observes six electron neutrino candidates at the far detector Super-Kamiokande, which indicates the appearance of electron neutrinos as a result of muon neutrino transitions into electron neutrinos in their flight. The primary goal of the T2K experiment is to discover this neutrino oscillation channel.

The discovery of the electron neutrino appearance would be a milestone of the neutrino physics, especially would open the possibility to explore a key to the mystery of the universe, why the universe is dominated by matter particles, not anti-matter particles.
