Visas Participants from some countries will need a visa in order to enter Japan. Please check if this will be necessary well in advance. A good place to start is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan's website at http://www.mofa.go.jp/visa/index.html . 12. Hotel Accommodation MEITETSU WORLD TRAVEL INC.(MEITETSU) will arrange hotel accommodations for the participants. Participants should make their hotel reservations in advance on the enclosed "Application and Payment Form". A deposit of \10,000 per person is to be paid in advance together with the reservation. The hotel deposit will be forwarded to the hotel, and it will be deducted from the final hotel bill. MEITETSU will confirm reservations for accommodations. Those who use credit cards should check to see if their cards will be accepted. There are three types of accommodations: hotel (western style), "ryokan" (Japanese style), and "minshuku" (Japanese style). There are single and twin hotel rooms. A twin room has to be shared by two persons. A twin room could be use by a single person (twin-single use), but it is more expensive than a single room. Each hotel room has its own bathroom and rate includes breakfast, tax, and service charge (except for Hotel Go, see below). Both "ryokan" and "minshuku" are Japanese style hotels. One room will be shared by 3 or 4 people. A "ryokan" is generally costly and sometimes even more expensive than the best hotels. The price includes traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast in your room and the services of a personal maid. After dinner, the maid makes guests' beds by putting futons on the tatami floor. They have one or more spacious bathrooms which are shared with other guests, and now most "ryokan" also have an individual bathroom in each room. "minshuku" is cheaper than "ryokan". The price includes dinner and breakfast which are usually served in a communal dining area. In a "minshuku", guests are expected to set out their own futon which will be found in a closet in their room. A bathroom is usually shared with other guests. "minshuku" sometimes have only Japanese style toilets rather than the western style. Please choose three candidates from the following and list them on the "Application and Payment Form".
